USU Technology Commercialization Office
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Utah State University Technology Commercialization Office is to extract the fair market value of the University's intellectual property using best business practices for the benefit of the University, faculty/staff, and community.
What is the TCO?
The USU Technology Commercialization Office (TCO) assists faculty and staff in understanding the technology transfer process and complying with its requirements. Through its operations, the Office ensures that all obligations to sponsoring entities are met. The TCO also negotiates contracts that give commercial rights to private companies.
Only the TCO has authority to enter into agreements for commercializing University technology and creative works. All faculty and staff must refer outside companies interested in commercialization of University creative works to the TCO to receive proper approval of the vice president for strategic ventures and economic developments.
What do we do?
The TCO manages the commercial aspects of creative works at USU...
by creating the appropriate forms and procedures for disclosing creative works, by helping inventors/creators complete these forms and review all disclosures, and by evaluating the legal validity and commercial appeal of potential inventions and ideas.
The TCO assists faculty and staff through the technology transfer process...
by formulating development plans for meritorious creative works, by marketing the concepts to private industries, by facilitating the formation fo mew businesses, and by assisting in securing development funding for promising technologies.
